About JAPEP

Simply the Best

JAPEP was established in Melbourne in 1987. Since then JAPEP has provided hundreds of Australian and NZ schools with unique opportunities to learn Japanese language and culture directly through outgoing native Japanes assistant teachers.

JAPEP is aware of the importance of care and preparation for the assistants in order to maximize the benefits of the program for both the assistants and school communities. It has one of the best preparation and support systems in Australia.

Many claim JAPEP Assistant Teacher Program is the best assistant teacher program. It is certainly the most popular program among Australian schools. Since JAPEP receives an overhelming number of applications from schools, many schools find it hard to get a JAPEP assistant.

Dr Kuninori Shimbo, Director of JAPEP, has taught Japanse language at primary, secondary and tertially schools in Australia. He has MA in Japanese studies and PhD in Education. He is a NAATI accredited translator and visiting research fellow at the Japanse Studies Centre, Monash University. His publication include academic and general articles. He is also an award winning Ikebana artist. He lives in Melbourne with his wife, Julie and Roxy, the cat.
