We have started a new program, School Volunteer Program to supplement our
popular Assistant Teacher Program, which has become increasingly difficult
to run. The new government regulation prohibit any qualified or
experienced teacher from obtaining a visa to become an assistant teacher.
The requirements for schools have also become harder so that it is now
more difficult to host a well trained assistant.

Under our new program, a Japanese visitor can spend up to 3 months in your
school community as a resource/volunteer person. Her/his chief goal in
coming to Australia is to travel and improve her/his English rather than
to assist and support your Japanese program. We arrange private English
lessons after school a few times a week. As a tourist visa holder, the
visitor can observe the class and interact with the students but is not
allowed to teach.

We have run a pilot program a few times over the last few years. The
response from the schools have been very positive.

For the contents of the program, please refer to the Description page.
Following items are different from Assistant Teacher Program;
board, 4 day work arrangement and orientation.
The volunteers contribute more to their host families,
and work 5 days a week (but this is negotiable).
JAPEP doesn't provide them with 1 week orientation,
as they are not expected to teach.
